Krasinski is a really smart guy, and he understands humor and storytelling well, so it’s baffling how weirdly this went awry despite having so many of the right elements. It’s an adorable concept and a great cast—and features lots of cute scenes and moving moments with absolutely no connective tissue to bring it all to a satisfying narrative form. Giacchino delivers a fantastic score, as usual, whimsical and fun and filled with a thrumming heartfelt energy. (Sadly, it's so overused trying to prop up scenes that don’t go anywhere, it almost overstays its welcome.)
