The depth of my fervid loathing for Emma Thompson in the ’90s (mad she stole an Oscar from my current crush Michelle Pfeiffer) is paying marvelous dividends today, when I finally recognize her brilliance and get to dive into all of these old roles. As an added bonus, I doubt I’d have had nearly as much appreciation for this story back then as I do today, when its depiction of wealth’s pernicious and conniving crusade to perpetuate itself without the slightest regard for humanity really hits home.
