I’m not the biggest Nicole Kidman fan, but whatever else you might say about her, you can’t say she’s timid in the roles she selects. Her performance is intimate and fully committed, even if the character isn’t as well defined as the complex emotional story requires. Dickinson’s approach seems a bit heavy-handed, but this too might stem from the script’s weaknesses. It’s an interesting examination of relationships, new and established, and the nature of obsession—but seems content to mine shock value from the surface level without pushing much deeper.
