Zowie—what a film! Donaldson brings pitch perfect dialogue and a remarkably confident directorial eye; Lily Collias is absolutely captivating; and the relationships feel utterly real. All of this with a narrative approach so subtle that it borders on quotidian. Le Gros and McCarthy bring an easygoing chemistry that conveys deep history without an ounce of hacky exposition.
