Lamentably few films center around such a sustained conversation. Savvy directorial choices keep the talking interesting, along with excellent work from Thatcher and East, and a very compelling turn from Grant. His natural charisma remains just beneath the surface of the character’s creepiness—it’s hard to imagine anyone else pulling off this performance without turning your stomach in the first ten minutes. It doesn’t finish as strongly as it starts, but I’ll continue to keep an eye on the output from Beck & Woods. Their style and creativity have certainly been drawing me in to a genre I’d normally avoid.
