I could never comprehend the meteoric success of Rent (I felt like the Team America movie nailed it, frankly). This is the show that should’ve made Larson’s name instead—the songs are a lot more appealing (most of them) and the story and characters are easier to like. Miranda outperformed my expectations as director a hundredfold: excellent choices for staging, camera, and editing that really sell the energy, along with excellent work from Garfield and a positively radiant Vanessa Hudgens.
