Stallone’s performance is impressive, but his script even more so. He does a great job of establishing Rocky’s character and his world, addressing masculinity and vulnerability, and balancing the sports story with the character and relationship. Talia Shire does an excellent job, especially in scenes where she does very little. The rousing finish is surprisingly emotional.
