It’s a little unfocused, but that never really bothered me. I appreciated the performances and the treatment of the child relationship, plus getting to see Scorsese experiment with some stylistic choices we don’t see in his later work. Jodie Foster’s spectacular and natural acting style was already fully formed in her fifth film role—astonishing.
