The performances were tremendous (especially the boy and the dog, of course), and I respect the precision and parsimony with which information is doled out—maddening as it was. The direction has a restrained, almost vérité style, which makes the emotional impact all the more impressive. Triet and Hüller create a character who isn’t easy to like, and they got me rooting for her anyway. Explores ideas about truth, perception, and relationships that will be with me for a while.
