I’m thrilled that projects like this and Our Flag Means Death are giving the fantastic Rhys Darby a chance to show his range. He and Gabrielle Graham create an excellent haphazard chemistry, and this heartfelt, funny story unfolds in intriguing ways that surprise but never disappoint. I saw a critic complaining the film’s message was garbled or unclear—but I think that is the message! Nothing is clear, but we’re doing our best with the information and resources we have, adjusting when necessary, and acknowledging that there’s always a chance we’re fucking up royally.
