I like the performances, but for me it succumbs to the pacing issues of its era. I felt like it overstayed its welcome because it made its point around the halfway mark, and then seemed to keep on making it. I haven’t seen much early Brando (mostly because I haven’t liked what little I’ve seen) but his approach to Stanley enthralled me. Kazan’s black and white camerawork continues to be a cut above the rest.
