The first act is laden with a few vestigial late-80s comedy tropes, but once it hits its rhythm it's engaging, suspenseful fun, and surprisingly well constructed. Tomei is brilliant, and the film—which is really a relationship story—owes everything to her, especially its rousing conclusion.
