As someone who generally avoids Andy Samberg and hasn’t enjoyed Disney’s reimaginings of its ‘90s hits, I was not expecting to watch this, much less love it. The tone is appealing, the pop culture references are clever and stop just short of becoming grating, and the story is a lot of fun. It’s like if the Psych writers’ room decided to make an episode combining the best of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Being John Malkovich.
