The striking increase in quality from the first film makes it worth the wait, indeed. There’s believable dialogue, characterization, and story structure now! There’s subtlety. (At least a little.) One senses that McQuarrie was a big help. The flashbacks are cheap and unneeded, but Cruise is in fine form, and Connelly classes up the joint (as per usual). No overlong, weepy ending, either? Color me impressed.
