Sonic’s quippiness continues to grate, but admittedly I am not the target audience for this dialogue. The action is often clever (much more so than the plotting), and Idris Elba makes an entertaining foil for Schwartz’s more-is-more approach. Natasha Rothwell creates some solid laughs, and it’s still great to see Carrey hamming it up in a role like this. It plays to his strengths and he’s definitely not phoning it in.
