I enjoyed the structure, the cinematography, and the excellent use of sound and long, lingering takes. I was very impressed by Smit-McPhee, and Cumberbatch was great as always; his uneven accent, less so. The story was good, but the characters’ motivations sometimes slipped loose from reality, and it’s a shame that so many misunderstood, withdrawn movie characters share the same thing as their Big Horrible Secret.
