Being the Ricardos

The script is snappy and absorbing, although the decision to have a greek chorus of fictionalized present-day interviews is puzzling. The directorial choices mostly go awry. Kidman is the wrong choice, and the decision to alter her with makeup is even wronger; the Frost/Nixon less-is-more approach would have been better—Sarah Paulson in a red wig, better yet. Sorkin’s dialogue captured Lucy’s quick wit, but Kidman couldn’t keep up, though she performed the physical stuff quite admirably. There’s much to like, but as this film went on I was more and more distracted by what might have been.
