Handles the action well, and the compression of historical events as well as most similar films (which is to say, awkwardly). Bale outshines Damon in a very engaging portrayal of a character who isn’t necessarily easy to like. Caitriona Balfe in turn outshines Bale, but the screen time spent on their story could be better spent elsewhere.
