Cruise taps into Jerry as a good man, overwhelmed and broken and troubled, but decent at his core. The chemistry with Zellweger and Gooding, Jr. elevate the story and the emotional punch, but Kaminski’s cinematography pushes it over the top, with its warmer, more dreamlike reality.
