The editing, framing, and especially sound design do a great job of escalating the tension while taking an admirably restrained approach to the visual effects. Whannell keeps the world of the film tight and close—with clever echoes of Gaslight and a sharp focus Cecilia’s isolation—and gets more out of Moss than I’d ever have expected.
