Burnham and (especially) Fisher capture the awkwardness and anxiety of middle school admirably. Josh Hamilton creates an excellent dad in a role that could easily have slipped into parody or creepiness. The total package feels less than satisfying, perhaps because its theme is as empty as the platitudes in Kayla’s videos: life sucks sometimes, but you just gotta …do it, y’know?
