Excellent performances from everyone—Monaghan stands out for achieving immediate charm in a role with precious little time for character development. The direction is terrific, with just a hint of Hitchcock (and a score that evokes Bernard Herrmann at times, too). I enjoy sci-fi stories with strictly detailed “rules”, but I also admire Jones’s decision to strike a balance between a satisfying story and a conceptually perfect explanation.
