While the lighting can be dramatic at times, the overall visual style is strikingly bland. It’s often voyeuristic and reductive—with barely any story beyond characters discussing or impulsively engaging in sex—which is a damn shame, because so few films manage to combine unsimulated sex with the sort of characters, story, theme, and cinematic style that would serve to distinguish the result from “just another porno”. (Not knocking porn—it serves its purpose—but it would be great to have both.)
