It amazes me that I somehow remembered this as a clever thriller with a brilliant (if imperfectly realized) concept, when in fact it’s a total misfire. It’s laughably illogical, Depp is grievously miscast, and the story manages to exhibit a complete lack of urgency despite a sweaty Christopher Walken constantly pointing at a clock. Uneven editing sucks energy from every performance, which would almost be forgivable if the pauses kept up the real-time conceit (the only interesting aspect) but the “clock” slides all over the place from scene to scene anyway.
