It’s fun to reminisce about Calvin & Hobbes, and it’s great to hear from Watterson’s contemporaries and those whom he inspired, because he truly is a genius. But the film is pretty empty without its title character, and at times meandering and overly focused on its narrator (though thankfully not to the extent of its Documentary Now spoof).
