Even the self-indulgent flourishes of Danny Boyle can’t spoil the unbridled joy from Curtis’s extraordinary dialogue, Patel and James’s fizzy chemistry, and a perfect soundtrack that elevates the film’s emotional thrust by casting some of humanity’s greatest pop songs in a new light of rediscovery. The story runs off track once or twice very briefly, but I’ll be goddamned if I cared—I was too busy enjoying it.
