The score and cinematography are beautiful, and of course the Coens always bring out great work from varied casts, but I feel like the decision to smush these stories together into one film rather than a Netflix “limited series” was wrong. There’s not quite enough tonal variety to create a satisfying exploration of the genre from all angles—instead it seems like two or three ideas repeated a few times.
