How do you follow up a fresh, spontaneous breakout hit in a way that delivers new surprises, but doesn’t discard the original elements that felt so fresh and spontaneous but now feel a little familiar? Deadpool 2 managed it better—this new LEGO story is fun at times, but often overlong, with way too much of the live action “human world” story, too many endings, and a climax that’s telegraphed repeatedly and heavyhandedly from the very first scene.
