Waititi is truly charming, and there’s a lot of clever, subtle humor—but most of the cast is a bit flat, and the timing and delivery result in a lot less comedy than you’d expect from such a fertile premise. It may have been a situation where too much improvised material made it hard to craft it into a coherent story in the editing room.
