Meyers-Shyer has assembled something sexier and messier than her parents' films but no more connected to reality. It takes place in a fairy-tale version of Los Angeles and every scene is staged like a sitcom. Much-needed edge is contributed by Candice Bergen and Michael Sheen, who are woefully absent most of the time. There’s an entire subplot that could be excised, along with the inexplicable decision to make a bunch of the characters filmmakers.
