It's an interesting angle on a very familiar premise, with a great protagonist. But many of the trickier story points are oversimplified, and the pacing and performances are unpolished (even Dulé Hill, though it’s great seeing him in a different kind of role). Much like the choice to achieve every single card trick through editing or effects, the result is unsatisfying and hollow.
