Kasdan has a talent for great dialogue without always having to call attention to it. That, along with strong cinematic choices and a plot that’s intricate without being overburdened, elevate this above the pulpy potboiler it might have been. Hurt is in fine form, and Ted Danson is magnificent. Not the finest work Kathleen Turner’s ever done, but certainly film debuts have been worse.
