I was ready to dismiss this as another quick-fix hero worship movie to relive a recent news story (á la Sully) but it’s much better than expected, and Wahlberg turns in a great performance. (He keeps doing that! Makes you think he’s more than the dumb lump of muscle we all expect him to be.)
Peter Berg showcases his usual skill with camera and editing, and the script adroitly unfolds the most compelling part of the story—the swift, proficient manhunt—with the wise choice of inserting a fictionalized protagonist into a cast of real-life cops. I’m amazed this wasn’t a box office hit.
