A winning romance story with great performances and a rotten ending. It's tricky to pull off a convincing story of finding happiness on a detour from pursuing your dreams, because either the original plan gets shortchanged or it has to have some deep, irredeemable flaw that was somehow invisible. In this case, the solution was to sacrifice the credibility of the lead character—not the best choice when she's played by a woman who breathes absolute sincerity into every role.
