Fantastic story, great cast, great performances—it would be amazing if we could tempt Tim Burton with enough stories like this that he doesn't have time for neon-marshmallow Alice films, but alas.
Sadly, I'd have expected such seasoned writers to do a better job condensing events. A sporadic narrator and a choppy first act make it very slow to warm to. I daresay without the grounding influence of Amy Adams, the viewer never really would've had a rooting interest.
