The chemistry with Monique is fairly charming, but the interrupted rhythm of the story saps its momentum. I gave this one a second viewing with all the goodwill I had in me, but it’s just too disorganized and amateurish (not the same as sophomoric—it’s that, too, but that’s forgivable, if done well). David Ogden Stiers is badly miscast, and falters aside from the funny scenes with the parenting book.
