The harshest test of my never-quit-a-movie-in-the-middle policy in quite some time. This recent spate of surreal alternate-universe stories where everyone is semi-catatonic, nihilistic, or otherwise detached remind me how much I need great characters or a great plot in order to appreciate such an experimental approach.
