Excellent performances from everyone (even Michelle Williams!) but it will exhaust your benefit-of-the-doubt reserves. Would improve on second viewing, if I had the energy for that.

Well, a 92/100 would put it in league with some of my favorite movies ever, like Shopgirl or Ratatouille. As much as I enjoyed Synecdoche, New York, I never fell in love with it (and I tried really hard!).
My computerized rating system gave it a 64 (and a 58 on re-test), so 72 was me being generous. It places Synecdoche, New York above The Untouchables and below A Life Less Ordinary – feels perfect.
