Slumdog Millionaire

Fantastic child performances and a cute premise are undercut by cartoon villains and Danny Boyle's assaultive camerawork. Good overall, but I have no idea where the fervent Oscar buzz came from.

Karen and I saw it on Saturday, and as the closing credits were rolling I told her, "I think that's one of the best movies I've ever seen." And after turning it over in my head for a day or two, I'm sure of it.
Damn it all, too; I was going to go into the Oscars with no real favorite, and I was just going to be able to enjoy the Oscar party no matter who won. Now I'm invested.

The end credits are definitely the best part. I don't mind saying that I cried a little during the dancing – not that I can explain why, I guess it just conveyed the emotion of the moment better than a dialogue scene would've. I'm sorry I won't have you as a compatriot in the fight against its all-but-assured Best Picture win, but I survived The Return of the King all on my own, so I'll do it again.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. I liked it, but I wouldn't nominate it for Best Picture even if you got ten nominees.

I'll be his compatriot. :-)
