Ron Howard has directed some great movies, some poor movies, and very few in between. This is one: the cast is great, and there’s a satisfying idea at the core, but the script is often on the nose, the “one day can change everything” theme is heavy-handed, and a lot of the chaos added to the denouement feels unearned.
