New TV season holding out for a hero Jesus, they panic fast. Do shows have any hope? (But I admit seeing Life on the "fared better" list is a warm feeling.)

Sigh... where does this end? The networks keep pushing the panic button earlier and earlier, which causes viewers to get gun shy about commiting to new shows (because, frankly, who wants to read three chapters of a book and then have someone yank it out of your hands?), which hurts ratings, which causes the networks to push the panic button earlier. Gyaaarrrrgggghhh.
At what point do the networks acknowledge that this system is hopelessly broken and needs to be replaced?

You know what I bet would do it? If this strike situation blows up in their face and they have to share their DVD and download money with actors and writers (i.e., the people who actually create content). Right now, the only pie they share a significant slice of is the TV pie – so who gives a fuck if they flush that? In fact, the faster a show tanks, the less broadcast income there is to share with talented people and the greater chance we'll buy the DVDs to see those 18 unaired episodes!
